Just by reading the title, I know what you are thinking: “yeah yeah, this topic has been covered a bazillion times already!” Absolutely, it has. Phrases like “it’s a brutal industry” and “competition is fierce” (with nearly 7.5 billion people on the planet, what isn’t competitive?) can be found in industry articles and blogs all over the interwebs. With that said, rather than rehash too much, I’d like to share some specific advice/perspectives that made a world of difference to me early on in my career.
For quite a few years now, I’ve dedicated myself to the voice over profession. It’s more like a passion really, and I consider myself quite fortunate to be able to do what I do. While certainly competitive and at times challenging, I never approach the route toward the booth with a forlorn trudge. The recording booth is a sanctuary to me (my clients know this) and I cannot wait to get in there: to conjure, create, inform, imagine and story-tell!
